| Welcome to the Electrical Safety Foundation International's (ESFI) website. Established in 1994, ESFI is the leading authority on electrical safety issues. Our goal is to reduce electrically related deaths and injuries through public education that keeps electrical safety at the forefront in people's minds, and to give the general public, school children and the workforce tips and tools to prevent deadly electrical accidents. Each May, ESFI is the official sponor of National Electrical Safety Month. Why is ESFI necessary? Because people are being injured or killed in preventable electrical accidents. As technology advances in quantum leaps, so, too, does our dependence on electricity. Unfortunately, as safety is better engineered into electrical products, our awareness of sound electrical safety practices decreases; we grow comfortable in the belief that manufacturers have made their products failsafe, and we take our safety for granted. We all use electricity every day for computers, lights, and appliances. Although safe when used appropriately, when misused, the electricity that powers these products remains uniquely unforgiving - the smallest mistake can be fatal. I hope that you find the material on our website educational and useful. More to the point, I hope that you use it to create a more electrically safe environment at home, at school, and at work. Please feel free to communicate with us by phone, fax, mail and e-mail. Ask questions, raise issues, and relate stories of both successes and failures. Most of all, let us know how ESFI can be of better help to you and your organization. Sincerely,
